Every piece of Clogau jewellery contains Welsh gold

Welsh gold is one of the rarest and most sought-after golds in the world

Clogau Welsh gold is undoubtedly one of the rarest in the world. Due to the cost of extracting it, Welsh gold is no longer being mined and the remaining supplies are becoming increasing sought-after. Each piece of Clogau contains a touch of rare Welsh gold from the Clogau St. David’s Gold Mine in Bontddu (pronounced “bont-thee”), in Snowdonia, North Wales. In 1923 this mine was famously chosen to supply the gold that has been used to create generations of Royal Family wedding rings. Clogau jewellery gives you a piece of this wonderful and unique heritage with every piece.

Welsh gold is worn by Royalty

Since 1923 the Royal family have been wearing wedding rings made from pure Welsh gold. This tradition was founded by The Queen Mother, then Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, on her marriage to the Duke of York on 26th April, and continues to this day with the Duchess of Cambridge.

Other members of the Royal family that have worn Welsh gold rings include
Her Majesty the Queen, Diana Princess of Wales, Her Highness Princess Margaret Countess of Snowdon, and Their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall.

Welsh gold stamp

We stamp every piece of jewellery, size permitting, with the Clogau logo and Welsh Dragon. The Welsh Dragon stamp indicates that Welsh gold from the Clogau St. David’s Gold Mine in Bontddu, Snowdonia, is included in your piece.

There are other marks that you will find on your jewellery including our sponsor’s mark (the “CG”), the standard mark which indicates the type of fineness of the precious metal and Edinburgh castle, the symbol of the Edinburgh Assay Office.

Certificate of Authenticity

We guarantee that your Clogau jewellery contains rare Clogau Welsh gold extracted from the Clogau St. David's Gold Mine in the heart of Snowdonia, North Wales, once owned by the company.

The Clogau gold mine is situated in one of the most stunning parts of Wales, deep in the heart of Snowdonia. Interestingly, it first opened as a copper mine in 1842 and it wasn't until 1854 that gold was accidentally discovered there.

The Clogau St. David's Gold Mine has gone through mixed fortunes over the last century due to the veins of gold being very inconsistent and difficult to locate. This has made Clogau Welsh gold extremely rare.

How to look after your jewellery

There are 3 main ways to care for any piece of jewellery:

• Ensure that it doesn’t come into contact with household solutions such as hair spray, perfumes, cleaning products, bleach, etc.

• Store it in a compartmentalised, anti-tarnish jewellery box to avoid scratches and tarnishing

• Periodically polish it with a soft jewellery polishing cloth with tarnish preventative to help keep your gold and silver pieces lustrous and shining.

More about jewellery care.

How will my item arrive in the post?

Every order we send will arrive in an anonymous package, without any Clogau branding. So don’t worry if you're buying a gift for someone, we won’t spoil the surprise.

When will my order arrive?

Orders of £249.99 or less are sent by Royal Mail Recorded Signed For™ (which takes up to 12 days to arrive, excluding Sundays). You can upgrade your postage to FedEx next-day delivery for £7.00.

Orders totalling £250 or more are sent by FedEx next-day delivery free of charge which is guaranteed by FedEx to reach you by the next working day (excluding bank holidays) if your order is received before 4pm and is in stock. All deliveries require a signature on delivery. During very busy periods however, your order may be despatched the next working day.

Can I have my item engraved?

At present we can engrave onto a select number of Clogau items. We indicate when an item is engravable by putting the word "Engravable" in the description box above. You can also check which items can be engraved here.

Can I have my item gift wrapped?

A gift box adds the perfect finishing touch, and creates that all-important first impression – and our Clogau gift boxes do just that with a combination of black card, black tissue paper, a golden bow and a message card for just £5.50.

Your gift can be delivered either to you or direct to the recipient (so long as it’s not your first order, in which case we can only deliver to your billing address for anti-fraud purposes) with a card containing a message from you. You can choose to have it delivered flat-packed or fully wrapped.

Gift boxes come in two sizes. Large items such as bangles, bracelets, necklaces, and watches are gift-boxed in the larger box. Small items such as earrings, pendants, rings, cufflinks, charms and brooches are gift-boxed in the smaller box.

Is Welsh gold included in my jewellery?

Yes. Every piece of Clogau jewellery contains a touch of rare Welsh gold extracted from the Clogau St. David's Gold Mine in Bontddu, Snowdonia, North Wales. To certify this, our jewellery is stamped with a unique Welsh Dragon mark, a Clogau logo and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Does this item come with warranty cover?

Yes. However, you must fill-in and return the warranty form that comes with your order within 30 days of purchase. Alternatively, you can register online for free warranty cover.

Please note that these cannot be bought separately or be fitted onto an old Clogau item - you have to buy a Clogau pendant and extension chain together.

  "Quality"
Husband very happy with these cufflinks which were a late golden wedding present. In spite of being a fanatical Welshman he admitted he preferred them to my first choice of the gold dragons; these are smarter and look better than their picture.

  "Simply wonderful, stylish and classic"
I bought this beautiful cuff link for my boyfriends birthday, its simply wonderful, stylish and classic. I hope he will adore it. The only comment is the gift wrapping I purchased is not great, but I am delighted with the cuff link itself.

  "CUFFLINKS"
