The Clogau Story

Over 150 years ago, in the hills of Snowdonia, gold was discovered in the Clogau St. David’s mine. This mine, once the largest and richest of its kind, produced tonnes of pure Welsh gold.

After many years, the gold veins became too rare and difficult to find. Over a century later, the last train carrying Welsh gold from the Clogau mine clanked to a halt.

The Clogau brand was founded in the early 1990's with just five pieces of jewellery and a handful of Welsh retailers.

The Roberts family wanted to find a way to ensure that Welsh gold would still be used to create handcrafted jewellery of the highest quality, beauty and originality.

Over 20 years later, Clogau is sold all over the world in leading jewellery stores, on-line and on some of the world’s best airlines. Clogau is the proud winner of the Brand of the Year award at the 2012 UK Jewellery Awards.
